Historical Overview

SET Environmental was established in 1979 as an operating division of Wheeling Disposal, a solid waste management company focused in the Chicagoland suburbs.  During the early years, the company functioned primarily as a transporter for drum, bulk tanker and bulk roll-off boxes of hazardous waste to selected disposal facilities.  In its first decade, the company expanded its base of expertise to include comprehensive remediation and decontamination activities.

1986

SET acquired a branch of Servicemaster and began the Industrial Decontamination division. Building on the existing base of clients, SET was able to add the technical and chemical expertise to decontaminate high hazard tanks, silos, buildings, and storage vessels.
1989

SET acquired our current treatment facility; a widely capable Part B permitted TSDF that offers lab pack and drum disposal, as well as compressed gas cylinder and reactives treatment and recycling.
2002

SET acquired DSC Environmental, a specialty field services company in Dallas/ Ft. Worth, Texas. SET-Dallas services include emergency response, industrial decontamination, remediation, transportation and disposal.
2005

SET acquired a branch of Caldwell Environmental Services in north Houston, Texas. Highlights of these service divisions include emergency response, industrial decontamination, remediation, transportation and disposal.
2008

SET acquired a branch of Caldwell Environmental Services in Noble, Oklahoma. Highlights of these service divisions include emergency response, industrial decontamination, remediation, transportation and disposal.
2009

SET acquired Bellon Environmental in St. Louis, MO. This location provides emergency response, industrial decontamination, remediation, transportation & disposal.
2010

SET acquired Duke’s Earth Services Inc. (DESI Environmental Services) in Mooresville, IN. This location provides emergency response, remediation, transportation & disposal.
2012

SET acquired Valley City Environmental Services in Grand Rapids and Portage, MI. These locations provide transportation, disposal, remediation, industrial decontamination services, and emergency response. SET acquired SEA, Inc. in Little Rock, Arkansas. This Safety Management Systems division provides safety consulting and training services, industrial hygiene services, and environmental management services.
2013

SET acquired Jensen Environmental Services in Muskego, WI. This location provides transportation and disposal of non-hazardous and hazardous waste, emergency response, industrial services, oil and oil filter recycling services. This division has been relocated to our new Oak Creek, WI building.
2016

SET acquired Key Engineering Group in Milwaukee, WI. Key had provided Environmental and Civil Engineering services throughout the Midwest since 1990. This group will operate under Key Engineering Group, an SET Environmental, Inc Company.
2019

SET acquired Environmental Remediation Services (ERS) in Fort Wayne, IN, and Maumee, OH. These locations provide transportation, disposal, remediation, industrial decontamination services, and emergency response.
